The Brea Junior High band is happy to share some great accomplishments.

Allyson Lee, 7th grade, clarinet; Gloria Bae, 8th grade, clarinet; and Scott Thorsen, 8th grade, tuba were selected to participate in the SCSBOA (Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association) honor band this year! Scott Thorsen was also selected as section leader (1st chair) for his section of 6 tuba players and was selected for the All-State California Honor Band. SCSBOA presents middle school and high school honor concerts each year. Thousands of students audition from all over Southern California.

On March 22, 2013 BJH Concert Band performed at the SCSBOA concert festival at Garden Grove High School. The band played three selections for a panel of judges. Following the performance, they were also judged in sightreading, in which the band must play a piece of music that they have never seen nor heard before, with only 4 minutes to prepare. The Concert Band earned ratings of Superior, the highest possible rating, from every judge! This coveted Unanimous Superior rating is rarely earned, especially by junior high groups! On March 28, 2013 the Concert Band performed again at the SCSBOA concert festival at Excelsior Auditorium in Norwalk, along with a debut performance from the Brea Junior High Intermediate Band. At this festival, both bands received Superior ratings once again! This extremely high level of success is a tribute to the excellent students and strong band program in the Brea Olinda USD.

The Brea Junior High Concert Band will perform their final competition for the year on Saturday, April 20. They will perform for the Music in the Parks event. Good Luck! Brea is supporting you.
