Have you heard? Valeria Zavala, a 5th grade student at Laurel Elementary School, made local history as the first Brea student to to be awarded National History Day Champion for the State of California! That’s right! With over 500,000 participants each year, she was the first student from Brea to make it to the state level competition, let alone win.

Teacher, Jill Berrner, is very proud. So are we."Being able to participate in National History Day, represent Brea and Orange County at state competition and come back as a champion was a great experience for me. I am looking forward to participate in NHD next year and the year after that. I hope more kids from Orange County get to experience what is like to come back home as a champion," said Valeria.
