    Election Day is November 4.

      Many of us were drawn to Brea because of our great public schools, which serve as a prime indicator of the overall condition of Brea. Therefore, It’s important we keep our schools strong. On November 4 you will get the opportunity to make a difference by casting your vote for the 2014 Brea Olinda Unified School District candidates. Six candidates are competing for four seats on the Brea Olinda Unified School Board of Education. Each candidate has agreed to provide a statement to further inform residents. Their statements are published in the order received.

        Incumbent: Nicole Colon

          New candidate: Carrie Flanders

            Incumbent: Alicia Maciel

              Incumbent: Bill Hall

                        Brea resident since 1998, mother of two sons in Brea schools, Harvard MBA, bilingual/bicultural, prior CSUF faculty All students deserve safe schools, access to quality public education and the opportunity to reach their full potential. Teachers and staff deserve fair compensation, training and resources to effectively do their job in the rapidly evolving field of education.

                          As Executive Director of Prentice, a private nonprofit school focused on serving k-12 students with learning disabilities, I direct all aspects of running a school; hiring, finances, parent engagement, fundraising, effective teaching methodologies, curriculum and teaching approaches impacted by new state standards and more. Having worked at organizations such as Chevron, The Walt Disney Co., Kraft Foods and UCI Medical Center, I’m familiar with successful business practices.

                            Engaged parents, well-prepared teachers and inspired students are essential pieces of the education success formula. Every stakeholder deserves to be treated with respect and be kept informed of "the state of our schools" and the administration’s plan to keep our district moving forward. My diverse background and experience affords me the benefit of connecting with a broader constituent base. Please vote for me, I’m committed to working to make our great Brea schools even better.
