    Election Day is November 4.

      Many of us were drawn to Brea because of our great public schools, which serve as a prime indicator of the overall condition of Brea. Therefore, It’s important we keep our schools strong. On November 4 you will get the opportunity to make a difference by casting your vote for the 2014 Brea Olinda Unified School District candidates. Six candidates are competing for four seats on the Brea Olinda Unified School Board of Education. Each candidate has agreed to provide a statement to further inform residents. Their statements are published in the order received.

        Incumbent: Nicole Colon

          New candidate: Carrie Flanders

            Incumbent: Alicia Maciel

              Incumbent: Bill Hall

                        My name is Bill Hall and I currently serve as a member of the BOUSD Board of Trustees. My wife Liz and I have owned our home and lived in Brea for 18 years. We have 2 sons who attend Brea Schools, one is a freshman at BOHS and the other is a 6th grade elementary student. I’m the owner of Action Enterprises Inc. located in Anaheim which has 3 Divisions serving the manufacturing community. I have been endorsed by every current sitting Board Member as well as the Orange County Superintendent of Schools Mr. Al Mijares, former Assemblywoman Lynn Daucher, former Board Member Susie Sokol, former Brea Mayor Bill Lentini, PRHS Commissioner Bill McMillan, and former BOUSD Superintendent Tim Harvey.                           As parents my wife Liz and I share your desire for a strong educational experience for all Students. With your help I will continue to support a rigorous and diverse classroom experience, our Arts and Music programs, a balanced District budget, unity with our Teachers and Staff, a full academic calendar year, safe campuses and improvements to our buildings and technology.

                            During my current term of service our District successfully:

                              • Restored our academic calendar year and eliminated furlough days.

                                • Redirected district resources to restore earthquake damaged Fanning Elementary.

                                  • Redirected district resources to restore the earthquake damaged BOHS PAC and Cafeteria.

                                    • Installed internet access and purchased Chrome Books technology for all sites.

                                      • Maintained and improved District test scores at all sites.

                                        • Maintained positive budget ratings and reserves for 8 consecutive years

                                          • Generated $25 Million in proceeds from the Brea Corporate Place property sale

                                            • Built New Olinda Elementary site and added new 8 classroom wing in 2014

                                              • Added new classroom wing at BOHS

                                                • Bargained successfully with all Teacher, Classified and Management groups

                                                  • Secured grants and upgraded our Transportation Fleet with new energy efficient CNG buses

                                                    My goals for the future are:

                                                      • Reduce Class Sizes

                                                        • Increase Classroom rigor

                                                          • Maintain Positive Budget Certification

                                                            • Increase Budget Reserves

                                                              • Increase Classroom technology and resources

                                                                • Improve physical condition of Schools

                                                                  • Maintain positive relationship with Bargaining Groups

                                                                    • Promote continued professional development of Teachers and Staff
