                      Carrie Flanders

I have been a Brea resident for 31 years, attending elementary through high school in BOUSD. My family decided to raise our four children in Brea because of its’ dedication to education and community.

Education has always been my passion...it's who I am! Learning about learning is exciting to me. I graduated from CSUF with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I understand the importance of reaching students with diverse needs due the key role I played, during my teaching career in Anaheim City School District, creating and implementing programs to service these students. It was there, where we were given the opportunity to adopt our oldest son, Berdo, who was a 4th grade student from my first year as a teacher..

In addition to our oldest adopted son, Berdo, now 30, Steve and I have three more children; Tayler, 17, Jessie, 13 and Nathan, 12, who have all attended school in BOUSD. Although this will be our first year without an elementary student (sniffle...sniffle), we have finally reached a time where we have experienced all levels of our children's education. What an incredible journey this has been so far! Aside from our children's activities being the center of our lives (soccer, cheer, choir, and academics), our family loves to travel and spend time with our family and friends.

Even after the decision to leave teaching to stay home and raise our children, I still felt drawn to education. Right away, I became involved with my own children's learning and haven't stopped ever since. I have been a parent volunteer for 10 years on many different levels...in the classroom, 7 years as Chair of Olinda’s largest fundraiser, PTO President for 3 years, School Site Council Member, BOHS Cheer Booster Board Secretary and President, and as a substitute teacher for Brea Olinda Unified School District

Community involvement has earned me an appointment on the City of Brea’s Planning Commission, where I am responsible for making decisions based on the values of our community. Additionally, my experience as a parent, Rotarian and shareholder in our family business has provided me a variety of perspectives and expertise.

I bring integrity, common sense and the ability to communicate effectively, which is essential for collaborating with teachers, staff, administrators and our community. My passion for education, and enthusiasm, will be an asset to the School Board.
