Mariposa’s principal awarded state honor at White House

Dr.Helene Cunningham, 2013 National Distinguished Principal for the state of California, was honored at the White house last month.       Dr. C goes to Washington:The Mariposa principal Dr.Helene Cunningham (known affectionately by her students, staff, and parent community as Dr. C) was honored at the White House on October 24-25 as the The National Distinguished Principal (NDP) of California. Dr. Helene Cunningham, is in her 18th year as a public school principal, was honored as the one principal representing the largest state in our nation.

        Dr.C said, “I met educational heroes from across the country, and loved hearing their stories and collaborating on ideas." Cunningham met with Arne Duncan, US Secretary of Education as well as the Assistant Secretary of State.

          Each NDP gave a two minute speech about their school. Dr. C created an NDP Rap about education.You can search You Tube at: http://youtu.be/wvhCRcoVn5U to view her in action.

            Dr. Cunningham empowered her students to travel virtually with her to Washington DC via Instagram. She posted pictures, comments, and questions for her students from which to learn and keep them engaged thoughout her journey. This once in a lifetime experience is like winning the Academy Awards for principals. Needless to say the community loves Dr. C and is very proud of her!
