Inspired by an initiative of the California League of Cities campaign called the HEAL program, which stands for healthy eating active living, Mayor Ron Garcia, second time serving as Brea’s Mayor, named this year’s Mayor’s Theme: Active Lives, Healthy City, Brea 2013, as announced during the City of Brea’s City Council Meeting held on Tuesday, February 5.

Mayor Ron Garcia noted that Brea has great year-round comprehensive programs promoting healthy living choices, including youth and adult sports league and exercise classes, nutrition and cooking classes, wellness options, and Brea’s senior and fitness center.

Furthermore, 5th, 7th, and 9th grade students in the BOUS district topped both state and county measures, with 80% of our 7th grade students placing well in the healthy fitness zone, Mayor Garcia commented.

Mayor Garcia went on to say, Brea has taken advantage of smart outdoor use planning. We have long-term plans for the use of outdoor parks and trails with a trail called “The Tracks at Brea” plus upcoming Wildcatters’ Park and a dog park.

Mayor Garcia pursuit in promoting the Mayor’s Theme of Active Live, Healthy City, Brea 2013 is to raise awareness in helping us to connect noting,” Whether it is our quest to improve personal health or to increase fulfillment through volunteerism and involvement with others, I encourage you to become more active." “You will be rewarded by making some new friends who are also proud to be living or working here in Brea,” explains Mayor Garcia.
