Each year during the month of October, people travel near and far to plan a date to visit a happening haunted house attraction. What intrigues us? Well for one, those of us who have watched countless horror movies imagine what it would feel like to be inside a scary movie where we are experiencing anxiety, fear, our heart beating and pulsating, or something even more sinister… but where?

Sinister, but safe is where you’ll find Brea’s Sinister Pointe, “Southern California’s Only Year-Round, Permanent Haunted Attraction and Horror Production Studio, according to Jeff Schleffelbein, who is no stranger in creating haunted attractions all over Southern California for the past 14 years. Jeff is quite familiar with Brea as he rented space for his haunted theme attractions at the Old Captain Bloods Theatre in Brea Plaza, from 2007-2009.

Last year he came back to Brea and set his sights on a permanent location on Arovista Avenue in a nondescript business park. The scene begins in a secluded country house setting. Around six people at a time are let in together to explore the many mazes of rooms filled with frightening ghouls and carefully crafted interactive scenes, where guests are expected to figure out the route that leads to multiple paths that complete a 15 minute walk-through the 10,000 square feet of haunted maze.

Expect to get a little wet, no not from wetting your pants in terror, hopefully. Without letting the cat out of the bag, there are a few watery scenes that only the adventurous may discover. There is also a short walkway that may trigger the claustrophobia in many of us.

People from all over make a special trip to Sinister Pointe so expect a lot of company. On Sunday, Lisa and her daughter, Jolene, Halloween enthusiasts, arrived very early to be the first in line. They came from Huntington Beach to check it out. Their family and friends accompanied them later to experience Sinister Pointe and to take some ideas home with them from the pros, as they have celebrated the holiday by designing a family fun haunted house for 15 years.

Of final note, outside the maze where people are lined up to enter, there is foodie truck and tents with merchandise to unwind after your haunted adventure and have a bite to eat, and do some shopping for a keepsake item of your ghastly experience.

Countdown to Halloween - trick-or-treat adult style at Sinister Pointe Haunted Attraction.
