    A Sneak Peek….

Due to come out within the next few days, Inside Brea Magazine’s Hello, Spring Season issue features my story about the Brea Mall, titled: Brea Mall Where People Meet, Greet and Congregate. You’ll find it on pages 14 -17.

New to Brea Mall: Tesla Motors electric vehicles, located on the bottom floor near Williams-Sonoma.

Back in early January I met with Brea Mall’s General Manager Rajeev Chhabra, and Director of Marketing and Business Development Anna Cotter to gather information for the story. They were both very welcoming and hospitable, sending me home with a nice goodie bag.

Instead of focussing entirely on Brea Mall with its recent major renovation since opening its doors 37 years ago, I decided to combine the old with the new in writing the story, so I contacted Susan Gaede whose husband Rex Gaede was the mayor during the grand opening of the mall back in September of 1977. I also contacted Former City Manager, Wayne Wedin, who along with Gaede played a major role in 'The Making of a Mall,' as seen on a video produced by Album of Life for Beautiful Brea Old & New.

Brea Mall's Official Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in 1977. From left, Miss Brea Laura Shipkey, Former Mayor Rex Gaede, and Master of Ceremonies: Actor Robert Vaughn, best known as “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”

I hope you enjoy the article. It will take you back to the fall of 1968 when the idea of building a mall was put into action, the challenges it faced in its recent renovation, the first major celebrity attraction at the mall, and finally its yearly special event happenings.

  • New stores at Brea Mall – Kelley’s Kookies

    5 years ago by

By now many of you may have heard about the new stores coming to Brea Mall: Starbucks, Kiehl’s since 1851, Shoe Palace and Kelley's Kookies.

In particular, Kelley's Kookies caught my attention. It struck me as a small operation relative to the other new stores. After a quick check, I found out it has been around since 1988, celebrating 26 years in the biz, yet I never heard of it! Maybe some of you are familiar with Kelley's Kookies given their two locations, Stanton and Arcadia.

Originally opened by Marcella Onishi and named after her daughter Kelley, they were bought out five years ago with the plan to expand Marcella’s great concept.

Kelley's Kookies will be occupying the space on the second floor where Orange Julius was located. They sell an assortment of over 20 types of Kookies that are handmade and packaged beautifully to give as gifts for special occasions.

Kelley's Kookies Mother's Day Classic Gift Box

Kelley's Kookies also takes online orders and assures quality deliveries. Their packages of sealed Kookies are normally good for 6-8 weeks.

It's Kookie store will be a nice addition to Brea Mall.
