This is a national competition, officiated and sanctioned by USA Track & Field, with $11, 500 in cash and prizes awarded to the best masters (age 40 or older) runners in the United States. $10,000 in cash will be awarded to the top runners and teams, with another $1,500 in gift certificates provided by A Snail’s Pace Running Shops, official elite sponsors of the 2014 USA National Masters 8 km Championships.

The national interest in this race has been strong, due in part to the participation by some of Orange County’s own local heroes, such as Christian Cushing-Murray (Santa Ana) who in March of 2013 set a new American record (for men age 45) running 1500 meters in 3:55.09.

To qualify to compete at the 2014 USA National Masters 8 km Championships on February 23, runners must be age 40 or older on race day, and be a current 2014 member of USA Track & Field. Interested runners can join USATF online, or go to the Embassy Suites hotel in Brea, on Saturday, February 22, and join USATF and register for the Masters 8 km Championships. USATF membership is $30 year, and funds to go help support various USATF local and national programs, such as the Junior Olympics and the Elite Athlete Development Program.”
